Wildlife around Bay Farm Holiday Cottages and on Rosehaugh Estate

Foxes, Pine Martins, Roe Deer and Red Squirrels can all be seen on Rosehaugh Estate. There are many good walks on the Estate, which is open to the public. The leaflet “Paths Around Avoch” which you will find in the information basket in your cottage has details of some of the Estate walks. There is no public parking on Rosehaugh Estate, but as holidaymakers in Estate property you may drive onto the Estate and park by the Estate Office provided you let us know when you leave your car.

You may see an otter swimming across the Bay from Craigiehowe on the north shore to the old quarry just beside the cottages. Otters are hard to spot when in the water, but if you are lucky you may see one in the inlet of the old quarry. Several people staying in the cottages have seen them but you have to be patient.

Sometimes a Seal and a Cormorant dry out on the sandbank in front of the cottages.

The famous Pod of Moray Firth Dolphins can regularly be seen in summer at Chanonry Point when they follow the salmon into the inner firth. The best time to watch the dolphins at Chanory is just after low tide or you can book a boat trip with Gwyn Tanner in Avoch Harbour.
